What is the future of email in the face of new platforms?

Email is dead, or at least that’s what Silicon Valley is betting on, “wrote technology reporter Ashlee Vance in Business week. Asana co-founder and software developer Justin Rosenstein likes to say that email has become” a counter-productive tool, “while the chat tool Slack boasts that their work “saved the world from too much. 70 million emails ».

These are some examples of people trying to “kill” email. But it’s not just the novice entrepreneurs, as the younger generation, inferior to millennials, is characterized by their indifference to “the poor old email.”

Once, obtaining an email address was a right and a necessity for all students arriving on college campuses. But now, as one North American professor argues, email is “out of date” for students, and the rector of the University of Exeter even claims that “it doesn’t make sense for students to keep using email.”

But what would it cost to give up all the flexibility that email offers? Because in reality, email is a huge, open and decentralized platform in which innovative things have always had a place, and in fact still do. Thus, email represents a different model to the closed ecosystems that we see proliferating today on the web and on mobile devices: it is an exciting landscape of freedom amid the walled gardens of today’s social media and messaging services.

Email is not dying, it is just transforming. Since it developed early in the history of the commercial internet, email serves as a supporting structure for many other events in the history of the web, which has made email vital.

Here are some of the vital functions that email has had since its inception:

– Email was a news source. With the proliferation of newsletters, email alerts, flash sales emails, and other content, each email became one more consumer medium. It was as much a “news feed” as it was an inbox.

– The email was once the passport and identity of each. Before Facebook became a true alternative for verifying one’s identity on the web, the email address was the method to accomplish anything serious on the internet. Do you want to verify a bank account? E-mail. Amazon? E-mail. Forums? E-mail. Facebook? E-mail.

A Hotmail account might indicate that you were a beginner, whereas for a while, gmail addresses were a sign of sophistication. Now both the functional and symbolic importance of email addresses are on the decline as there are so many other ways to signal that we are online.

– Email was the main direct social communication medium on the internet. It was the way to send a message to someone. There were already forums, chat rooms, or message boards, but email was the first way to have a private “conversation” away from the public channels in which the web was involved.

Now, however, there are tons of ways to reach someone on the net. We have the telephone, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, WhatsApp … and so on to an almost infinite list. Mobile app developers no longer want access to email addresses, but rather to a user’s phone contact list.

– Email was a digital delivery parcel service. After the popularity of file transfer protocol (FTP) systems faded, but before Dropbox and Google Drive broke in, email was the primary method of sending heavy digital documents over the internet.

Attachments were a key productivity tool for everyone, and it’s hard to imagine an internet without the ability to quickly add documents to a message. It goes  Palestine Email List without saying that email is the worst medium to transmit or store compared to the services we find today, where cloud-based solutions have proven to be superior.

– E-mail was the main means of communication for networking. Most companies would have a hard time operating without email. Many companies are trying to do it, but have not yet found the ideal method. The HootSuite CEO stated at Fast Company that although “email is unproductive, linear, and antisocial, paradoxically, it tends to create silos of information.”

These are some of the main uses of email, but it is clear that many of these tasks will pass to other hands. Each person will have to decide whether to use email as their main identity of her on the web. So what will be left of the inbox?

E-mail not only replaced the traditional letter-writing system, but also other ways of communicating such as phone calls, face-to-face meetings, notes or marketing they will have a Buy Leads  first  calls. But now you could simply stay in a home for the kinds of communications that come in traditional mail: letters from real people, invoices, personalized advertising, and periodicals.
